UNIVERSITY OF MANITOBA

WOMEN AND GENDER STUDIES OFFICES

Imagine walking into your office and being greeted by three new murals—each bringing in elements of nature, gender expression, and culture.

We recently had the joy of collaborating with the incredible team at the University of Manitoba’s Women and Gender Studies Program to create meaningful artworks that transform their space into a more welcoming environment for students, guests, and professors alike.

Art has a powerful way of shaping how we feel in a space, and this project was such a beautiful reminder of that.

Congrats to artists KC Adams, Ky Quiring and Carly Morrisseau on these spectacular murals.

SOCIOLOGY DEPARTMENT HALLWAY

In honour of the 60th anniversary of the Department of Sociology at the University of Manitoba, the mural draws on the idea of connection—where rivers meet, where systems overlap. The imagery reflects interdependence: native plants blossoming from a central vine, animals in motion, and the relationship between a human figure (open to interpretation as man, woman, or both) and the living world around them. From the fish in the water to the bison on land, each element is connected, referencing both the local ecosystem and the broader social fabric of Manitoba.

All animals and plants represented in the mural are native to the area surrounding the university. This work is both a celebration and a reflection—honouring the past century of sociological thought while grounding it firmly in the land we share.
